Terms of service

Effective 16 September 2026. These pages are a practical launch template and should be reviewed by a qualified UK legal adviser before paid advertising or unrestricted public uploads are enabled.

Using the service

HB Map Layers provides tools for uploading, aligning, annotating, sharing and viewing historical maps. You must provide accurate account details, keep your sign-in secure and use the service lawfully. Features may change while the service is in development.

Your content

You retain ownership of content you upload. You grant HB Map Layers a non-exclusive licence to store, process, resize, display and distribute that content only as needed to provide the visibility and sharing options you select. Public submission does not transfer ownership.

Public maps

Public submissions may be reviewed, rejected, unlisted or removed. Approval means the profile meets the service’s publication checks; it is not a legal finding about copyright, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose.

Supporter access

Free accounts may store up to three historical-map layers. Supporter benefits may include additional layers, settings and an ad-free experience. Donations are voluntary support rather than ownership of the service. Any recurring payment, cancellation or refund terms shown by the payment provider also apply.

Availability and liability

Historical maps, user annotations, GPS positions and AI-assisted search results may be incomplete or inaccurate. Do not rely on them for navigation, property boundaries, excavation safety or legal decisions. The service is supplied on a reasonable-efforts basis and may be interrupted for maintenance or provider outages.

Ending access

You may stop using the service and request account deletion. We may restrict accounts or remove content that violates these terms, creates security risk or infringes another person’s rights.
